Training and Behaviour

What We Offer

With my love for dogs came a thirst for knowledge and with that I began my journey as a dog trainer and behaviourist. Having done a Phd in Psychology I started to apply basic psychological principles to the art of training dogs. Training a dog is based on a simple foundation; reward good behaviour and ignore bad behaviour. Yet often people struggle with things like resource guarding, lead walking, recall, the stay command, destructive behaviour, separation anxiety, etc. This is where I can help. I like to observe the dog in their natural environment, at home with the family and then give them tips on how to train the dog so that they are a well adjusted member of the family. Dog training is often more about people training, training the owners to engage in the appropriate behaviour, behaviour that the dog can understand and respond to. In todays society there is so much information out there, every dog trainer does things slightly differently, just like every parent raises their children differently, different trainers use different approaches. I try to tailor the approach to the people and the dog I am working with.

If you would like to book a training session please contact us.

Even if your puppy or dog is not displaying any problematic behaviours now, it may be worth just having someone come into your home and give you some tips and pointers. New owners always have a lot of questions and having someone there who can answer them and help put is often the start to a great relationship.

Having raised and trained so many dogs I have one piece of advice for everyone.

Start training early.

The earlier the better. Having a strong foundation with your puppy and preventing any bad behaviours before they occur is a lot easier than adjusting them once they are learnt. This is why I often suggest that if you are a new owner book in one or two sessions with a trainer just to get you started.
